I actually don't listen to much hip hop... at all really. My list is limited to Jedi Mind Tricks, Slow Suicide Stimulus, Cage, Yak Ballz, and Aesop Rock... so I'm not HUGE on rap. But I think anyone can appreciate someone trying new things.

Everyone must listen and love. He's got a new CD coming out at the end of July, and I'll also be seeing him live in Atlanta around the end of July as well. His old stuff was the typical gangster rap, but the way this dude has evolved is just insane.

I mean, hipsters love this dude, but i really dont understand why (then again, i dont really understand hipsters in general).
pretty much everyone else u listed as liking is better than this guy, especially jedi mind tricks and aesop.
Personally, I'm a huge fan of Atmosphere, P.O.S., Brother Ali, Murs, Blueprint, and MF Doom, who I think are all more interesting and better lyricists than someone like Cage. I mean, te guy's not bad or anything. but I really dont feel like he's anything special eiher.
Well, me liking him is kind of also like how I prefer Silversun Pickups to Interpol, but love them both. Do I think Interpol's music is more thought out and more creative? Yes. But Silversun Pickups just have a great sound, and their songs flow well.
That's how I am with Cage. But just for the record, I've liked him for about 3 or so years now, and some of his best cds were before he was a hipster. Weatherproof and Movies for the Blind are easily two of his best cds (including EPs, Leak Bros, Weathermen, and Smut Peddlers). But this new CD (it was leaked on rapidshare) and the INKY ep is fun music... and dude's real about it.
He admitted that the new ep/lp are both more 'fun music' than 'personal music', and anyone who doesn't try to sell their shit as "deep" when it's not definitely wins my love.
But yeah, do I think Movies for the Blind is a better, more intense cd? For sure. But fun music is moreso what I'm going for now.
When it comes to rap i keep it pretty oldschool. Lots and lots of biggie. Thats the only "gangster" rape i listen to though. Other than that, Jedi mind tricks, yes absoluetly awesome. I also have one hell of a man crush on Mos Def, and when it comes to pure talent, Immortal Tecnique is insane.
