Title: Gaming Thread

Dunno if anyone else here is a gamer, but if there are others I think a place to chat is appropriate.

I'll start with basics.  Here's my rap sheet:

Systems Owned from 1992-Present: NES, SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Playstation, N64, Dreamcast, PS2, Xbox, PC, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS.

Game Genres I Commonly Play: RPG, Adventure, Third Person Action, Puzzle, Platformer, Fighting, Simulation/4x (e.g. Civilization or Sins of a Solar Empire)

Favorite Developers: Bioware, Valve, Nintendo

All time Top 5: Super Mario Bros. 3, Mass Effect 2, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Civilization 4, Marvel vs. Capcom 2

Currently Playing: Red Dead Redemption, Pokemon SoulSilver

I started Red Dead today and that game is fucking gorgeous.  Seriously, one of the prettiest games I've ever played graphically.  Also, so far it's damn goon in general as well, though I've only just started so we'll see.

Anyone else?

Well I can't vouch for anyone else, but I am. I owned all the systems you mentioned, and the Genesis, Nintendo DS Lite, and the PS3.

I play all the current gen consoles and handhelds as well. I'm with you on the genres though, about the same for me minus the simulations which bore me to no end. Developers? Insomniac, Sucker Punch, Bioware, Nintendo.

Right now, I'm in Brutal Legend, Dragon Age, and R&C's latest.

Dragon Age is a really good game, they manage to take a standard fantasy narrative and make it really engaging too, which is very impressive.  I played the expansion too, and liked it, but I've heard from either people that there are a few game ending bugs in it, which is really disappointing coming from Bioware.

Brutal Legend was kind of fun, but it felt odd in later levels, I was basically trying to play an RTS from a third-person view instead of top down, and it was kinda frustrating, so idk.  The writing was hilarious/awesome though.

I'm a playstation guy. I've recently been going through a nostalgic phase, though. I've recently reconquered Final Fantasy's 7, 8, 9, and 10. I was never intruiged enough by 10-2 to play it through, so i should give it a try, and I never really enjoyed the gambit system of 12, so i should give it another go. I'm also playing through 13, but hittin the oldies to break up the long battle areas that just get tedious to me.

Once my binge on Final Fantasy is done, I plan on going back and beat Metal Gear Solid 1-4, just to re-live the epic stories of Solid Snake and Big Boss, and i may even dust off my orignal copies of Metal Gear 1 & 2, so for fuck's sakes.

And then, go back and beat the God of War trilogy on the hardest modes. I had done this on 1 and 2, but when I got my ps3, i gave my old ps2 software away, including memory cards, so I no longer have those files saved, and I've yet to attempt GoW3 on the hardest mode. I salivate at the thought.

Those three are def. my favorites series, but i also enjoy sports games, especially ncaa football and boxing or mma titles. I'm hoping the new ufc '10 is a much improved version of 09. I enjoyed 09, but it did get stale rather fast.

Currently playing Pokemon Soul Silver did watch my friends play Red Dead Redemption it looks pretty cool. Taking a break from WoW for now. Really looking forward to Cataclysm though. My hubbie is playing Bioshock 2 because we're behind on our console gaming.
